We’d arranged with Jess to meet in Centennial Park and do our session before playmaker and five-eigth James Maloney heads into the busy-ness of finals month with his league club, Sydney Roosters. He’s been playing a little bit too well to avoid that.
The Monday, up until midday, that I was to photograph James and Jess had been the picture of sunshine perfection and then it started to turn a little windy. I say a little windy but that’s a slight under-exaggeration.
It was blowing a strong gale, there were warnings all over the radio, and reports of damage around Sydney in many suburbs. Not only that but it would also have been hard work for even the best kicker of a football to nail a goal from 15 out (but I’d bet they’d love to prove me wrong).
James and Jess showed up at Centennial Park ready to shoot and I figured they’d need to do lots of hugging throughout, for Jess’s sake, because the wind had also brought a massive chill factor. Coats hadn’t been necessary when Jess left home with the temperature at 20 or so, but they definitely were needed during the shoot, so I am impressed with their effort to look so comfortable, relaxed and happy during the shoot.
I think a lot of that can be put down to the evident love between them.
Bring on the finals (Roosters v Newcastle for the grand final. Please!) and then bring on a grand wedding.
Congratulations James and Jess.
