Amelia is a photographer (see her work at Cherry on Top Photography) and decided to practice what we photographers keep preaching to everyone – make sure to be photographed with our families! Often there is one parent in the family who is almost always out of the photos because they’re holding the camera. Is that you? Observing the day through the lens but never being seen in front of it – or worse still – no one takes the responsibility to record the day-to-day changes and events. Don’t fall into the trap.
Children love the renewal of memories through photography. So take more AND be in more. Andrew and Amelia brought their son Oscar along for the first twenty minutes to make sure he was included in their love story. And then we wandered the park before the weather rolled in on us (it seems to happen with alarming regularity in Balmain).
We drove to where I thought we might be away from the worst of it but it just started hammering in, the wind picked up and the temperature dropped to less than 10 degrees after being at 20 or so half an hour earlier. We stood in an alley next to the Colgate building in Balmain as I had an idea for a couple of closing shots. The rain, whipped through by the freezing wind, weakened our resolve to do more shots. A door opened onto the alley from one of the apartments and the lady-of-the-house said, “What are you doing out here? You must be freezing. Do you want to come in for a glass of wine?”.
We didn’t but what welcome words they were. It gave us permission to finish right then. Anyway, here’s some of the shots we love from Andrew and Amelia’s session…
