NSW Southern Highlands are so named as a reminder of Scotland, and that’s appropriate when you go down the driveway to Craigieburn, Bowral. It’s just an hour away from Sydney. So whether you’re of Scottish or Irish descent or love the region’s beauty, Craigieburn is a perfect spot for a wedding.
Now apologies from me. I have a lot of weddings that haven’t been blogged, so we’re going to go backwards and forward in time, looking at a few that we’ve really enjoyed. So we’ll begin:
James and Moira’s Craigieburn wedding day was beautiful and became a template for how to do justice to a wedding day, and here we’ll add, in the Catholic way as well.
There’s a stack of ways of tackling a wedding day. For instance, where to get ready? Moira’s preparations took place at home, with many family members around. And being from a big Irish family made a lot of sense. So much conversation is happening around the family table in the kitchen, interspersed with many arrivals and departures.
It was lovely to work with Simona again, who is simply excellent with hair and make-up, calm, gentle and reassuring. The complete professional.
The wedding itself was held at St Paul’s Church, Camden. It is a beautiful building. However, it’s different from other buildings in that it is wider than long, making for different angles for ceremony photography. Also, there are a lot of entrances/exits to choose from.
The great part of heading to Bowral for a Craigieburn wedding reception is knowing that, without fail, the Southern Highlands never disappoints with its background. It’s such a beautiful landscape. And, of course, Craigieburn, having the advantage of being a golf course too, has lovely aspects all over its grounds. But, unfortunately, given its size, it’s hard to see every corner of Craigieburn in one wedding.
Do a stroll with the couple and/ or the bridal party; it gives everyone a breather and time to soak in the atmosphere and the scenic location. Those who are already familiar with the grounds might have favourite spots. As a photographer, we’re looking for the right time and place, with the right light, depending on the time of day and weather conditions. Bowral does, after all, seem to have the occasional quick change.
Weddings can be traditional, modern, cutting-edge, and very personal to the individuals. However, they can embrace those elements and be a real mix, which Moira and James did.
Moira has been very involved with Irish dancing for many years. In the middle of the reception, unknown to Moira, her sisters had arranged a performance for everyone, involving some of her students and sisters, all accomplished.
Do you remember watching or hearing about Riverdance when it was on Eurovision? The rest of the world loved it. Well, there’s obviously something more special in a live performance because Moira’s sisters and students were amazing. Watching the power, precision, speed, and grace of the dancing was a privilege. Having an edge of the stage view felt even better as a photographer.
It was fitting to showcase something that meant so much to the family.
Tradition, family, and a sense of unity are at the heart of a great wedding. James and Moira’s Craigieburn wedding was a perfect example of bringing these elements together to create a memorable day.
Looking to tie the know in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW with a family and friends, then look no further than a Craigieburn wedding to have an amazing celebration with your loved ones.
