David and Gillian found each other, fell in love, and combined their two little families into one during their wedding ceremony and reception at Banjo Paterson Cottage restaurant in Gladesville.
Covid has created unusual situations, changed people’s plans, held off weddings, and turned arrangements into rearrangements. In David and Gillian’s case, it meant that one half of the family hadn’t met the other until the wedding day. And while that’s often not a great surprise at weddings for the extended family, in their case, even Gillian hadn’t been able to get to Gunnedah to meet David’s immediate family.
It can make the wedding itself perhaps a little tenser, usually right up until the bride and groom are standing next to each other, that’s when everyone seems to relax and enjoy what’s transpiring.
David and his daughter got ready in town while Gillian, her son, and her bridesmaid/ sister got ready at home before the drive across to Gladesville. It’s only the shortest of drives off Victoria Road, but like so many places in Sydney, it feels like another world once you’re there.
The lawn, and gardens beside the cottage make for a beautiful, natural spot for the exchange of vows. The garden surrounding the cottage is lovely. To the right of the building is the lawn area, which David and Gillian chose to use for their marriage ceremony.
Post-ceremony the family photographs took place, and many of the family met each other formally for the first time. A little time was spent taking photographs in the immediate surroundings and wandering down onto the wharf.
One of the lovely advantages of Gladesville is the mere fact that the sunset is presented over Looking Glass Bay and the Parramatta River. It’s hard to miss. And when it’s a warm-coloured sky, take advantage. The sunset provides that beautiful light, not just from the sky but bouncing off the water, that lets a couple bask in its glow for a little while.
Being an intimate Gladesville wedding, the reception was held in a side room with views across the bay, that had everyone seated at a single long table. There weren’t going to be formal speeches, quite so much as conversation, excellent food, and a few toasts to a very happy couple.
The beautiful flowers were from Flowers by Jody.
The amazing wedding cake was from Clarissa at The Loaded Crumb.
Gillian’s hair by Louise from Lou’s House of Hair, and makeup by Tania Chiha Makeup.
