Daniel and Lonneke live close enough to the beach to make me a bit envious. We met over the road for their Maroubra Beach engagement session and immediately headed to the beach and the rocks area to start the afternoon.
Lonneke had just come from her hair and make-up trial with one of our favourites, Mel from Forever Makeup, and seriously looked the part.
We clambered up and down the rocks for a while, watching the waves barrel closer and closer, seeing a group of teenagers leap into the churning surf from the rocks and gleefully swim in the swirling waters – getting out – doing it again all over, and enjoyed an afternoon with the salt air making us feel good. I do like to be beside the seaside with people like this!
The great thing about these engagement sessions is in helping couples to get really comfortable in front of the camera, so that, especially on the wedding day, they’re relaxed straight away. Even though we’re a society who loves a selfie and overly posing for a photography we’re trying to find a way to help make the less obvious more noticeable – the relationship you have with one another – which doesn’t require heaps of posing, mugging, feeling awkward or uncomfortable in front of a lens. The wedding day, being such a different life experience, can sometimes feel quite pressured for some, with its new-ness and timetables, and degree of difficulty.
